Review by George Norman (Cybersecurity Editor)

A simple concern lead to the creation of OneSwarm: privacy. You see, this is a P2P application that puts the emphasis on letting you control how data is shared. Users who care about their privacy will like that OneSwarm allows them to choose who to share data with. You have the choice to share data publicly or to share data only with friends.

OneSwarm is available for multiple platforms: Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.
To install the application on your Windows PC, you will have to complete a standard setup procedure. Download a 47.8MB executable, run it, follow the simple instructions presented onscreen.

OneSwarm uses your browser as its interface. The familiarity of using your default browser combined with a user friendly interface layout leads to you immediately getting the hang of things. Even novices will quickly figure things out and will have no problems with OneSwarm.
If for some reason you don’t like the browser-based interface, you can switch to OneSwarm’s Classic UI. You can easily do so from the application’s system tray icon.

From a functionality point of view, you can expect to get the following from OneSwarm: open and download torrents, share files manually or automatically, import and add friends, specify who can see particular swarms, set upload and download limits, and more. Seeing how OneSwarm is freeware, you have all the time in the world to uncover all the features and functions it puts at your disposal.

Use OneSwarm if you want an efficient BitTorrent client. And definitely use it if you care about your privacy.

Pros

OneSwarm is available for multiple platforms: Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. Getting it up and running on a Windows PC takes little time and effort. You can use the browser-based interface or the classic UI. You can use OneSwarm as a BitTorrent client. OneSwarm puts the emphasis on privacy. OneSwarm is freeware.

Cons

This is from OneSwarm’s download page: “Remember that OneSwarm is research software that is still under active development. Do not rely on OneSwarm for strong anonymity. Although OneSwarm is in active use by many thousands of users, many bugs likely remain undiscovered. OneSwarm is free and open source software that is offered as is with no warranty.”
